Thanks to those of you who have been commenting. It's nice to hear from people who are still reading.

I wonder how much worse things can get for Isaac...

And it's here...

...so enjoy.

I'm off to watch Burn Notice on my new Blu Ray player.

I'm shooting for Friday/Saturday night for the next page.

Next update...

...should be up sometime Wednesday evening. Between friends having a baby and DMing 2 DnD sessions in 3 days, the weekend and early week has already been consumed. But I will be devoting tomorrow night to getting some comic on.

See ya then.

Happy Halloween...in two days.

Ok, so I think I'm going to just ignore the update "schedule" for the next month and see how many pages I can churn out in the following weeks. I'll aim for a minimum of 2 and a max up around 4. It's a lot of work, but I really want to tell the story in this chapter and get back to the main story. We've spent almost half a year in Isaac's past and enough is enough.

Not that I'm not looking forward to what happens next, because I am. This is a part of the story I've desperately wanted to tell since I began outlining it almost 3 years ago (2 years 9 months anyways). So in the interest of satisfying the both of us (me and literally dozens of fans that read this comic) I'm going to push myself through this chapter.

I'll be uploading pages as I get them done, no schedule set in stone. I'll be posting here when new pages get done, so subscribe to the blog's RSS if you want to keep track.

Not Dead (again)

Hello intertubes....how are you?

The last month has been crazier than I would have thought or expected. As I posted I took a trip to Los Angeles and then another to Chicago less than a month later. Things have been sort of hectic in between, but seem to be settling down nicely now. I'm not going away again until the holidays in December/January so I'm going to do some updating in between now and then.

I know it's kind of shitty when I drop off the grid like that, and I have gotten grief for not updating from various family members and friends. Long story short, I deserve it, but the comic does take a lot of time and time has been in short supply.

At any rate, I need to get the comic out of these flashback chapters and get things moving again, so I'm going to get my ass to work. Should have a page up before/around Saturday.

Chapter 8: Page 1

I'll be flying out to California Sunday and plan on attending a renaissance festival Saturday as August just continues to be terrible for my update schedule. I'll try to get a second page done this week, but there is a possibility the next update won't be until September 2nd.

After that I won't be traveling away from my PC until October, so hopefully we'll have a smooth ride until then.

In other news, Blazblue is amazing. Unlike Street Fighter IV, I actually win a few rounds in ranked matches.

Chapter Eight: The Reaper

Splash page time. Two nights of work, that one.

So, if you've been following along you may have noticed that the last couple of pages have been bigger than the old ones. I've picked a new size that is more suitable, I think, for web publication. I like it better, and I have since gone back and re-sized all of the pages I've produced in Manga Studio. The re-sizes start on the seventh page of chapter seven.

Chapter 8 will be the conclusion of Isaac's backstory. Lots of questions will be answered, I think, and then we will catch up to Seven, Daevlon and Isaac as they journey to Victory Port. They may bump into Liat and Cecil and some others along the way. It will be a journey too, as the arrival at Victory Port will signal the beginning of the end of Reaper 7. Sometimes it seems so close, but the reality is, it's a long way off.

In the future, you can expect twin chapters that go into depth about both Daevlon and Seven when I feel it's appropriate. Daevlon's story ties in heavily with the politics of the empire (and a lot of the stuff that's happening in the background during Isaac's Soldier/Reaper chapters). Seven's story has more to do with answering a lot of the mysteries about the weapons.

I'm telling you all of this because I want you to know that I do in fact plan on finishing the comic, and I have a plan.

Goodnight.

An Update!

Now for the bad news...

I just finished a vacation from my job, which I had hoped would produce time to work on the comic. Instead I spent the far majority of my time doing errands that had previously been put off to make time for the comic...so...sorry about the two week delay but...

I will be busy the entire first week of August and there will be no updates, after that I will be back for two weeks before going to California for a week for work. Both events will cause the loss of two weekends each, which is when I do the most work on Reaper 7. So August will be very hit or miss as far as updates go. I'll get pages done when I can, and upload them when I can. When October comes around I'll be trying to update on something that may resemble a schedule.

I know it's been all over the map lately. I just want you to know why and give you a heads up.

Next Page on Wednesday

This week/last weekend has been hectic.

I can't get a page done before Wednesday. I will still try to have a second page up Saturday evening...

Sorry for the delay.

2 Years sure went fast...

So as of today, Reaper 7 is 2 years old. This toddler has had it's walks and stumbles, but I'm happy to still be working on it and to have you, the readers who have stuck around despite my occasional flaky behavior.

I might spend time trying to pound out some anniversary art, depending on how things go. It'd be fun to work in color again and maybe draw Seven or Daevlon in an official capacity (they populate all of my sketch books).

I struggled to come up with a way to introduce Isaac's father into his late Soldier days in a way that didn't feel forced, or at least somewhat organic. These next few pages were a big source of writer's block, and I wrote at least 5 or 6 different versions of the coming events. When it finally came time to work on this page, I abandoned all of them and did something slightly different. That'll teach me to prepare!

No page this weekend

Unfortunately I've been busier than I thought I would be due to the holiday. The next page will be up on Tuesday. Sorry for the delay.

**Clever Title Here**

I had to make a small dialog change for continuity's sake one page 16 of chapter 4. Isaac had previously talked about being ordered to wipe out his own village, which never made it into the comic. To introduce a whole village and make you care what happened to it would have taken a considerable amount of pages, more than I was willing to devote to his childhood.

As such, the outcome is a bit different, and that's all I'm saying. This chapter has 3 pages left. Enjoy.

And here it is

For reference, since it's been awhile:

The character Isaac is talking to has been in the comic before (Sherman is his name), in Chapters 4 and 6. He is a General in the current time line, but only a Colonel here.

Well it's time to play Assassin's Creed, in preparation for the sequel. Always good to be prepared.

Saturday Evening

That's when the new page will be ready. This will probably be the norm for that Saturday updates, as working on Friday night is a bit rough.

Transformers 2

I was invited by some friends to go see Transformers 2 tonight on IMAX before it opens in wide release. At first I wasn't going to post my thoughts since I really don't aim to do the review thing here, but then I thought what the hell.

Without revealing too much, the plot is dumber than the first movie (hint: they went the Stargate route) by a significant amount. One could argue that the movie is actually about what forms of liquids and gasses come out the transformer's bodies, and come out they do. At one point a transformer farts a parachute. I'm not making that up; I wish I was.

When the bullshit stops and the robots start fighting it out on screen a lot is forgiven. The action scenes are long and loud and basically awesome in that summer movie way.

So basically, if I were to sum it up, I hated everything in the movie that wasn't a giant robot beating the shit out of another giant robot. Come for the action, groan at everything else.

This is going somewhere...

Honest. There's a plan in all of this.

This is the 13th page I've produced in Manga Studio (as opposed to Photoshop) and I have to say, I'm still really digging this program. Even though I've only scratched the surface of what I can do with it, I still feel much better about the results than I did before.

Also, here's a lesson: don't make Isaac mad.

Well it's late and I'm going to sleep.

War is Hell

So yeah, my fingers are totally cramped. It was worth it, I think.

The problem with pages like this is that they take forever, but I can't resist attempting them. This one took about 12 hours.

Next page on Tuesday.

Friday, June 19, 2009

A little late

Saturday's page is taking a little longer than expected, and will be posted sometime during the day.

Monday, June 15, 2009

Is that...a page?

So the update schedule for the time being is Tuesday/Saturday. Thanks to all of you who stuck around. Hopefully these coming pages will make you glad you did.

Working on the comic again is nice. I honestly didn't draw much at all during the hiatus (except for random sketches in my DnD sessions) so getting back into everything is...comforting.

I took some of my time off to play video games, most recently Mass Effect. I know its been out for awhile, but I never really had the time to give it its due. I played through it twice, nearly back-to-back, and I never do that. A third trip through the 'verse is not out of the question.

Not Dead

I should explain.

A) The comic is not dead.

B) I was seriously burnt out.

I work full time, 40 hours a week. At my peak, I also put about 20-30 hours a week in the comic and site maintenance. This creates a scenario where I start to rebel against my own personal goals and constraints and I ultimately have to take a break in order to regain my passion for this great little hobby of mine.

I'm sorry I never posted anything to that effect, but that's on me. I want to complete this story, and I fully intend to.

Pages will resume on Tuesday the 16th, if everything goes as planned. Updates will fall to two a week to hopefully prevent the sort of burnout that keeps me from creating pages for a month at a time. This should also allow me to improve the quality of the pages that get produced without causing a sudden drop in sanity (or personal life).

But yea, I'm coming back. Isaac is coming back.

"New" Computer

I bought a new-er computer this week and have been somewhat bogged down in transferring, updating, and otherwise clearing about 6 years worth of files from one PC to another. My work is nowhere near done, but you can expect a new page Wednesday the 18th.

Sorry for the delay, but my 2ghz Athalon just wasn't doing it anymore.

Page 152

Even though I consider myself stridently anti-reality television, I can't help but find Gordon Ramsay hypnotioc.

He's like a real-life Greg House.

I think the reason that I find Ramsay more fun to watch is that while House is made to appear an arrogant genius, his genius is imaginary, a construct if you will. Situations are presented to him week to week that can be implausible and sometimes have little to do with real medical science.

But Ramsay is the genuine article. In his field he is the arrogant genius who's passion and creativity are just a pleasure to watch. He makes me realize I know as much about cooking as I do about medicine.

Page 150

I'm crazy busy right now, so I'll think of a longer post for Wednesday.

For now, enjoy this page.

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Page 149

Well, this page is depressing. At least, I think it is.

I don't know how but the release of the new Fire Emblem for the Nintendo DS escaped my notice. I consider myself a fan of the franchise, going so far as to beat the WII game, which is, hands down, one of the hardest games I've ever played.

Seriously. H-A-R-D. But when I did beat it, there was a sense of accomplishment I rarely get from games anymore. Take the latest Prince of Perisa game. It was solid, fun, and a rush to play, but beating it didn't offer a feeling of ownership, a feeling that "I own this victory." Anyone could do it.

I don't believe that this is an uncommon example.

Page 148

Well it looks like I'll be keeping the three update a week schedule for awhile. Even though the amount of background detail on these pages makes them take a bit longer, I've been able to maintain my two page buffer so far.

I'm going to try to make a three page buffer, at least. Which means little sleep.

Since I took that month off I've really had a renewed vigor and inspiration for this comic. I don't really know why, but I'm suddenly driven again.

Oops

Page 147: Somewhere Nice and Quiet

I've been pumped to do these pages for awhile now, and somewhat frightened as well. This chapter is gonna involve some of the more challenging artwork for me, simply because of the amount of things going on in each panel. I have been pleased with the early results.

I went to my first Magic: The Gathering "event" in almost four years yesterday. It was nice to dust off the ancient decks and not get totally stomped into the ground. Not that I'm good or anything, but I got lucky in a couple of the games.

Frankly, I don't know the new cards all that well, and all of the creature abilities were new to me (again, 4 years without play) but it was fun using Deathtouch for the first time.

I can makes the news now

So for awhile my php news parser has been on the fritz and I haven't been able to post news on this site in any kind of reliable fashion. Sometimes it worked, sometimes the bottom parts of the page would not load.

Well, I finally decided to take care of the issue and have added a blog to this site. And with a lot of help from Joe of No Need for Bushido was able to make the thing work.

I have removed the chat box, because the posts here will be open to comments from anyone. I hope you don't miss it, and feel free to comment at will.

I know my RSS feed was a total and abject failure, but now you can follow the updates of Reaper 7 with the RSS link to this blog.

I'm going to try implementing some changes here and there to the site, some tweaks really, as things go on. Expect stuff like a character glossary to help you all keep track of the ever expanding Reaper 7 universe. Also, if you have any ideas or suggestions post them here. Feedback would be much appreciated!
